This session will provide the practice nurses with information on how to perform an electrocardiogram (ECG). The session will cover preparation of the patient through to interpretation of the ECG tracing including identification of an abnormal result.
This introductory education session is provided through the Practice Nurse Support Program (PNSP) supporting nurses new to general practice and is a recurring session.
AUDIENCE: Practice nurses participating in the PNSP and other nurses

LEARNINGS OUTCOMES
By the end of this session participants will be able to
- describe the basic application and performance of ECGs
- perform basic analysis of ECGs appropriate to a nursing practice setting
- recognise the red flags on ECGs that mandate urgent medical review
